Events and Field Trips

Fieldston Upper School Chinese language students celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival and Lunar New Year every year. Eating moon cakes, making dumplings, writing spring couplets, playing games, learning the stories and the history of those traditional festivals, and discussing and understanding the significance of those festivals are all parts of the celebrations. Additionally, Chinese language students run the school wide Lunar New Year celebrations, a signature event that invites the whole ECFS community to experience and to celebrate this holiday. 

In addition to classroom learning, Chinese language students also visit Manhattan Chinatown and Flushing every year to apply their learning to everyday life.

China Trips

Fieldston has conducted exchange programs with Nanjing University Affiliated High School and Beijing No. 4 High School. Fieldston Chinese language students hosted students from those schools first, and then visited those schools, stayed with host families, and toured Nanjing, Suzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, and Xi'an. In addition to experiencing the life in China, students also developed friendships with their peers and host families in China. Given the current situation, the current exchange program model might change; however, we will continue to create opportunities for Fieldston students to experience China in person.
